Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about Step 'n Wash

Why do my guests need a step stool like Step 'n Wash?

Most children under the age of 6 can't reach standard-height sinks, which means parents and grandparents are forced to lift, hoist, splash, and struggle. This creates a dangerous and messy environment in your restrooms, and a poor customer experience.

Don't forget about parents, grandparents, and caregivers who are pregnant, disabled, or mobility-impaired. These guests may not have the strength to physically lift their child to the sink.

Furthermore, individuals with dwarfism and other height-related disabilities need Step 'n Wash to access sinks safely and independently.

Your guests shouldn't have to skip the sink, and Step 'n Wash step stools help ensure everyone can wash their hands.

Will Step 'n Wash create a trip hazard for my average-height guests?

No!

Except when a guest is standing on the platform, Step 'n Wash is always upright and out of the way. It retracts on its own when a user steps off the platform. That's the magic of a self-retracting step stool.

Step 'n Wash step stools are designed to be installed just behind the front edge of the sink or counter, which keeps it clear of foot traffic when not in use.

Can guests steal or move the step stool?

No!

Step 'n Wash is securely anchored to the ground beneath the sink using four expansion anchors. Your maintenance team can remove the step if needed for restroom maintenance, but you don't have to worry about Step 'n Wash disappearing from your restroom.

Can't shorter guests just use hand sanitizer?

Hand sanitizer can't kill the most common stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhea (norovirus), and norovirus is most commonly spread after using the restroom or changing a diaper.

Is Step 'n Wash ADA compliant?

Yes, when properly installed!

Step 'n Wash should be installed in restrooms with two or more sinks so wheelchair users can wash their hands and facilities can remain in compliance with ADA access guidelines.

Since Step 'n Wash is floor-mounted, it will interfere with wheelchair access to the individual sink where it is installed.

Learn more on our ADA page.

How do I install Step 'n Wash?

Most of our customers install Step 'n Wash in about 15 minutes without professional assistance.

Each Step 'n Wash unit ships with all the required installation hardware. You will install four expansion anchors into the floor beneath the sink, and fasten Step 'n Wash to the anchors.

Full details are available on our installation page.
