Step-by-step instructions.

How to install Step 'n Wash

1. Identify and mark install location

Use the provided paper template as a guide, locate and mark the four anchor holes on the floor.

2. Prepare tile

Skip this step if installing directly on concrete floors.

Using a rotary drill and diamond hole saw bit, cut four small holes in the tile to provide clearance for wedge anchors.

Cutting clearance holes ensures you won't crack the tile while installing wedge anchors.

3. Drill anchor holes

Using a hammer drill and carbide-tipped masonry bit, drill four anchor holes at least 3 inches into the concrete subfloor.

4. Place wedge anchors

Place each of the four stainless steel wedge anchors (provided) into the drilled anchor holes, and gently tap them in place with a hammer.

Hammer until approximately 3/4" of thread remains exposed.

5. Mount Step 'n Wash

Place the Step 'n Wash unit over the installed wedge anchors.

Using the provided sealing washers and lock nuts, attach the Step 'n Wash unit to the wedge anchors.

6. Attach anchor shields and decal

Place the anchor shields over the exposed anchors and lock nuts. Affix the anchor shields using the provided thumb screws, and tighten with a 3/16" hex key.

Attach the provided mirror decal to the mirror closest to the installed Step 'n Wash unit.

7. Test and caulk

Pull the step down and ensure it stops at the proper horizontal position. Then, release the step and ensure it fully retracts.

Stand on the step and ensure it does not move for wobble; it should be fully secure on the anchors.

Caulk around the base of the unit where it meets the floor to prevent dirt and water intrusion.

Step ‘n Wash is a great family-friendly feature in our restrooms at Whole Foods Market.

It makes a trip to the restroom with a young child less of a balancing act. And it also cuts down on the amount of water that gets splashed onto the floor.

You're looking for a quick, affordable accessibility upgrade that can easily work in your existing space.

Your restroom has more than one sink. Because Step ‘n Wash is affixed to the floor directly in front of the sink, it obstructs wheelchair access for that sink.

As long as at least one sink has required clearance for wheelchair users, your restroom will remain ADA compliant and accessible to all.

You have enough clearance below your sinks or counters to accommodate a Step ‘n Wash unit.

Your facility has concrete subfloors.
